Today Arches is the only French paper mill still producing fine art and printing papers on a cylinder mould.
Making paper using a cylinder mould produces very high-quality papers similar to handmade paper.

Arches watercolor paper is a professional-grade, mould-made paper crafted in France from 100% cotton.

The hot pressed surface provides an exceptionally smooth texture, making it deal for detailed work, fine washes, illustrations, botanical painting, calligraphy and mixed media techniques.

The paper block is glued on all four sides, keeping the sheet flat while painting and preventing wraping.

It is ideal for watercolor, gouache, ink, pen & wash, acrylics (light washes) and detailed illustration work.

It’s surface sized with natural gelatin for exceptional strength- resists erasing, scratching and repeated washes.

They are acid-free, pH-neutral, Chlorine Free and archival ensures durability, won’t yellow over time.

It can handle multiple layers of washes and lifting without tearing.

Use a palette knife or paper knife to gently detach sheets after the painting is fully dry.

Even and controlled absorption- colors stay vibrant without dulling.
