Andrew Tischler was born in the United States and now lives and works in the South Island of New Zealand. Tischler took up painting from a young age and has dedicated his life to perfecting his craft. He has been painting for private collectors worldwide and in recent years has taken up teaching, sharing what he has gathered over the years, with his following on YouTube.

Andrew Tischler states that the goal for the portrait painter is ‘to make the sitter come to life’. It can be incredibly difficult to achieve a convincing sense of reality within a portrait without the right tools for the job! Following Tischler’s process, the portrait is built up with many layers.
